"Killer In Me"
Maruno International
The production called for a number of basic bullet hit
effects for which we used D-80 half strength charges fixed on top of blood
bags for entry wounds and sandwiched between two blood bags to provide
the extra effect for an exit wound.
In addition to these basic bullet hits, four 'wall splatter'
effects were required, these were produced by using a short mortar tube
filled with simulated gore, which was thrown against a wall by the use
of a pyrotechnic lifting charge: Two for a dream sequence where the hero
shoots a would be assassin in the head as well as for when the dream turns
into a nightmare and the hero receives a similar fate.
One when the hero assassinates a major crime boss - this
effect had to be synchronised to fire a fraction of a second after a D-80
bullet hit, so that between them they would simulate a .45 round entering
the victims chest and erupting out of his back and through the chair he
was sitting in.
The final 'splatter' effect was for the finale to the
film where the hero comes to terms with the horrors of his life and commits
suicide by placing his gun barrel in his mouth and blowing his own brains
out!
