Explosive Test Facilities

We use various facilities for the testing of our own explosive systems and prototypes, these facilities can be made available to others for their testing and evaluation activities.

Our current facilities and locations include:

Kent

A relatively remote 100 acre site within 1 hours travel of central London. The site is mostly an open grassed area, with light woodland and trees, a shallow lake for on/underwater firings and a 100 metre small arms range.

Additional facilities available include access to a 1000 metre long private runway (grassed for light aircraft), indoor catering/lunch and lecture room plus the use of a licenced HT4/HT3 store (for fireworks/pyrotechnics) and a HT1 store (for high explosive).

Northamptonshire

A remote 500 acre site within 30 minutes of Northampton and 20 minutes from a large local hotel (with catering/lecture room facilities). The site is a mix of dense woodland and large open grassed fields.

There are some 20 disused buildings on site offering storage and assembly facilities, but without mains electrical power. Some buildings can be used as shelters during firings.

Somerset

This facility is split into two sites; a large 20 acre, firing area on the Somerset levels for bigger firings and a smaller local firing area of 5 acres that is within 30 minutes of Glastonbury with catering and lecture room facilities on site. There are also two explosives store (one for fireworks and pyrotechnics and one for high explosives).

The exact locations of our firing sites and facilities are not published in order to maintain security.

If you would like to use any of our firing facilities, you will need to show that you have adequate insurance and that you are not a "Prohibited Person" (according to the Control of Explosives Regulations).
